A tribute to a remarkable woman's fight for equal rights. An educator, lawyer and orator, Shadd was also Canada's first female publisher of a newspaper.

Shadd (Cary) in freshly cast bronze. She is portrayed advancing forward against the wind – symbolizing the forces of discrimination. Held close to her heart is a copy of her paper, The Provincial Freeman.
